We Salute Our Heroes

Veterans Day

Today we celebrate Veterans Day. November 11th of each year is now a day to honor all American veterans, but did you know the holiday began long ago as Armistice Day? Armistice Day marked the end of fighting in World War I in 1918. It became an official holiday in 1938, and then became known as Veterans Day in 1954. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Day is “A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.”

At Branham Electric we hold our veterans in very high esteem and seek to honor them daily. Currently, over 1.5 million men and women serve in the Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard combined. More than 20 million in the United States have previously served, and many more gave the ultimate sacrifice as they laid down their lives for freedom.

We would like to encourage you to take the time to thank a veteran and honor them in some way. Here are some practical tips:

  • Simply express your gratitude. Thank you goes a long way, as does a cup of coffee or a meal. No heartfelt gesture is too small.
  • Be aware of the special needs of those veterans close to you. Veterans sometimes have difficulty returning to civilian life, and those who have experienced combat may experience physical or psychological problems. Listen and offer to help when you can, and encourage the enlistment of professional help when needed.
  • Pass along discounts. If you hear of a restaurant, store, or other business that gives military or veteran discounts, pass the news along. Branham Electric offers veterans and military members 10% off service calls and bids.
  • Donate to worthy charities that support veterans. There are many, many charities and organizations that claim to help veterans. As with any donation, we advise you to research where your money goes. Right now, we are working to send a plane filled with WWII Veterans to Washington, D.C. for a ceremony honoring their duty. You can help by attending our Speakeasy Soiree, coming up this November 21st, or by donating directly.

Branham Electric would like to thank each and every veteran!
