Top 10 Questions to Ask Before Hiring an Electrical Contractor

Hiring an electrical contractor

When your home or business requires electrical service, there’s a lot at stake. Because safety is on the line, both during the installation and repair process and in the long term, there is no room for error. Therefore, it is vital that you, the consumer, be informed from the beginning. With that in mind, we urge you to ask a potential contractor these ten questions:

  1. How much will this cost?

We know, this is a #1 question for many, and we understand why. Whether you are getting an estimate for your home or your business, you want the best deal possible. However, let us caution you against going with the lowest hourly rate. Often, professionals with higher levels of training and experience cost more per hour, but can diagnose and correct problems more quickly. For larger jobs in particular, a written estimate with an outline of the specifics of the job is a good idea.

  1. What does the estimate include?

As we said, a specific outline of the job is a good idea, including what happens if parts of the structure must be repaired or replaced if they are affected by the electrical work.

  1. What is covered in your warranty?

Does the company stand behind their workers and their products? Specifics regarding the terms of any warranties should be included.

  1. What permits will be required and who will obtain them?

A qualified electrician will be aware of required permits. Much of the time, they will handle getting the appropriate permits.

  1. What is your specialty?

This is a tricky one, because while a company may advertise all aspects of electrical service, you want training and experience in the area that meets your needs. A small company skilled in residential repair may not be equipped to handle a large industrial project. This is one area where Branham Electric shines brightly. We actually do have experts with highly specialized training in both residential and commercial installation and repair. Our foundation began with residential and multifamily construction. We added ‘round-the-clock service in 1998, our Systems and Voice/Data/Video Division in 2001, and our Energy Division 2008. Each of our divisions has been operating with integrity and excellence for many years.
