St. Louis Electrician – Energy Savings Starts at Home

As St. Louis electricians since 1991, we feel it is important to share information about energy saving solutions for the home. This video, produced by the US Department of Energy, discusses lighting solutions that can save you money. Very illuminating!

We now have lighting options that can save us considerable money on our electric bills. And energy saving starts at home.

There are 3 main types of energy efficient bulbs:

Energy Saving (or Halogen) Incandescents have a capsule inside that holds gas around a filament to increase bulb efficiency. These bulbs are about 25% more efficient than regaular incandescents and can last up to three times longer.

CFL’s (Compact Florescent Lamps) are really just curly versions of the long tube fluorescent lights that are more traditionally used in more utilitarian circumstances. They are now available in a full range of colors including warmer tones that are quite pleasing . They produce costs savings of around 78% (also pleasing) and can last 10x longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.

LED’s (Light Emitting Diode) are a type of solid-state lighting — semiconductors that convert electricity into light. Although they are more expensive than traditional incandescents, they pay for themselves with energy savings of 75-80% and a life expectancy that is 25x longer than traditional bulbs.
