President Harry S. Truman once said, “Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.”
As we gather this weekend to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday, we remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. This long-standing tradition began with Decoration Day just three years after the end of the Civil War, and later became a national holiday known as Memorial Day. Though it has become a weekend for big sales, camping, barbecues, and marks the beginning of summer vacation, it is so much more than that.
At Branham Electric, where we proudly support military veterans, we take this very seriously. We encourage you to also commemorate the true meaning of the holiday. Jefferson Barracks holds a yearly Memorial Day Service, as does St. Charles County. It is also a wonderful time to show appreciation to veterans who are still with us, thanking them for their service and contributing to causes that help them. This is something that we strive to do every day.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with enjoying and celebrating the freedom we have because of these brave men and women. Gathering with friends, family and community to laugh, share, and enjoy great food is a great American tradition. It’s not too late to plan a party or BBQ, but you have to act quickly at this point. This menu will get you started, or you can explore a world of pasta salads, steak, and amazing desserts to put together your own. As always, your safety is on our minds, so please remember to observe food safety guidelines and designate a driver if adult beverages will be served.
If you’re in the mood to get out and about, the St. Louis area abounds with festivities for the weekend. Annual events like Greek Fest and Rib Fest draw large crowds, as do the more traditional Memorial Day Parades and festivals.
